Sisters, mothers, sisters-in-law in our village sing so well Deuda, Thadi Bhaka, but they have not reached this far, our society does not allow them to become singers.
I have been active in the field of song and music through Deuda and Dohori. I have been active in this field for four years. I started modeling and singing. I started singing after acting in many videos of the Deuda song that is moving towards us.
My home is Calicut but my entry into the music field was from Mamaghar Bajura. Hark Khadayat, a musician who is also a lawyer, gave me an opportunity in this field. He gave me an opportunity to act in the song 'Papi Budhiganga'. At that time, many settlements were washed away by the Budhiganga flood. It was a timely song. After acting in that, I got an offer to act in two/three more songs. Then I came to Dhangadhi for Plus Two studies.
Then I was called Calicot. After Khagendra Neupane Guru called Kalikot, many things were done by staying there and connecting with songs.
At that time I acted in many songs. I visited many villages to act in popular song videos in Karnali and Sudur Karnali. I reached that settlement by walking. There is still no transport facility in Calicut. At that time I thought that the biggest thing is to build culture. We dance to oriental songs. We dance to songs from other cultures. If there is a program in our village, we dance in the clothes worn by the Magar community. But we didn't have a Magar settlement. I felt that
should wear our clothes and spread the word. We thought that we should protect our dress and culture. A person is born and brought up in a society. Just like a plant needs roots to grow, the roots of our musical field are roots. Sinja is Language originated from there. While understanding Basti and acting in Deuda's video, I vowed that whenever I sang a song, I would sing Deuda first.
I really liked the song called 'Jupadi'. The song was in a male voice. I came to Kathmandu to record the song with Kushal Adhikari's voice and Khagendra Prasad Neupane's lyrics.
When entering this field, young people do not have family support. Mother worries that this profession is wrong. Everyone in my family is a government employee. My family was worried about my future when my journey took a different turn. I am still struggling. The family was worried whether this would happen or not. My father was angry before entering this area for the first time. It was natural to be worried when someone who did not understand the field of music suddenly entered this field.
It was not customary to raise chickens in our village. There are no more chickens in Bahun's house. It is said that if a Bahun raises chickens while not observing that custom, he has committed a sin and caused disaster. It was like raising chickens that I started in this field. He was a leading singer in the region from Calicut. Women were not much.
There were only a few who worked professionally. There is also fear. But the biggest support and support is family, need.
As I progressed in this field, my parents started reminding me and started supporting me. Now my parents are happy to see me in this field. You are guiding.
I came to sing a song at Indreni in Kathmandu after the family did their taxes. I sang a couplet of the lyrics 'Bato Khulyo Motor Chalyo Jumla Kalikotko'. It gave a buzz. Then the family sent him to Kathmandu. In between, there were many opportunities to sing live.
Where did the song first reach the audience through the cassette? Nowadays it is very easy to reach the audience due to social media. Social networks have been very useful in bringing the art of the individual to the audience.
Jumla does not operate in Kalikot, but mobile has reached hand-to-hand and Tiktok has reached. People there also watch songs. It has been accessed. They watch songs through social media. Social networking sites like Tiktok have done the music industry a lot of good. How many songs have sunk commercially when TikTok shut down. If the song gets a good buzz on Tiktok, it will also run commercially.
There are both good and bad sides to anything. When 50 percent is good, the other 50 percent is bad. It depends on the person which one to look at.
When it comes to possibilities in music, if you get a job, you will spend your life there. The life of an artist is different. He has earned thousands of viewers and listeners. Even if it doesn't make you financially capable in the beginning, even if you don't eat it with the love of your viewers and listeners, it becomes an identity. Talking about our own region, after our generation started singing music, talents from Kalikot, Humla, Jumla, Mugu have come with Deuda and Dohori. They are promoting the local language, language and culture through songs and music.
Deuda and Dohri are being made public with the correct speech and costumes of our place. The real deuda towards us, Thadi Vaka is now being made public. When one moves forward, the way is opened for others. Now it is the responsibility of the new generation to handle that area.
The country's capital has a very different view of our region, which is what inspired me to go to Deuda and Dohori. Earlier Karnali means Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Mugu and Dolpa. The province has been divided into 10 districts. The five districts that are now connected to Karnali have a different view of our region. In this situation, I am in this area thinking what can be done for my village, language and culture. It is up to the people of our place to build language and culture. Foreigners are supposed to pick up something, not build it. I think there should be local representation in
songs. A singer should not only sing deuda and dohori, but should also be able to sing like songs. Must be versatile but not leave out the dialect, language and culture of your region.
The problem arises when culture and tradition do not go together in music. Who will wear our flowery, bulaki? Who will wear hair and who will wear dhoticholi? Others do not promote our culture. It is necessary to exchange culture, for that we must advance our culture. I have used our own Karnali language, costumes and dress as much as possible in my programs. While singing Dohori and Deuda, I tie phuli, bulaki, talo and wear choli and dhoti. That work can be done in saree too but my preference is that the culture of Karnali should be recognized. Culture is also discussed through songs. We do that to say we dress like that.
Deuda and couplets such as 'Baz, Suwa' were rarely heard. It has become widespread now. Earlier, the outlook for Deuda as well as Karnali and Sudurpaschim was not good. Those who showed negative feelings while listening to our language, speech and rhythm have now started liking our Deuda and speech.
There is a difference between singing a song in a deuda wearing a short dress and singing a song in a dhoticholo. It depends on the perspective of the audience. Tags are also applied based on that. They say that some are cultured, some are idiosyncratic. If an organizer tells me 'nani aidenuparyo', no one else is called in that language. The language we carry in it is because of the dress and culture. That makes a difference. Society changes the way we see ourselves. This field is not finished today. The work done in this field lasts for generations. Our work is for posterity to see. The culture we are carrying carries the message of educating the future generations.
Deuda's rhythm and speech are changing with the translation. Deuda will be at the bottom, the excitement will increase. That seems to be the demand of the current generation. Deuda has changed with the passing of generations. Earlier it may not be the correct way to sing in fairs and village festivals. Without that experience, it will not come to the present. Earlier, madal was played while singing, sarangi was played, now computer came and brought a change. In the same way, there will be some changes in the culture, but it will not die. Don't promote music by killing culture. Going that way is not a long-term journey.
There are problems that come with the areas of Deuda and Dohori. Achham and Doti go and sing Jhyaure song, it doesn't make much sense, Deuda listens to that. Going to Baglung and singing Deuda doesn't mean much. Our country has different culture from district to district. However, if the jhyaure is played in Achham, the audience dances and they listen to Deuda in Baglung. It means that different languages and cultures should be integrated in the society through
songs. No matter what stage I go to in Nepal, I cannot give my performance without singing Deuda. Deuda asks to listen. Thus the exchange of culture is necessary. We are also ashamed to say that I am a Deuda singer. I should be able to say that Deuda is a singer. Being able to sing Deuda is not a small thing. We can't even sing Deuda's song. Thadi Bhaka, which is sung in the village, is difficult even because we are engaged in this profession. Without fear, our generation should advance its music and culture.
We are taking Deuda and Dohori together. Now to further advance and protect it, everyone's help and support is needed just like sewage is needed to grow plants. Transliteration is the biggest need in this sector. He had to see what the elders had done. They had to have a dialogue. Feet should not leave the floor during one/two songs. You should learn to bend like a branch that has blossomed always bends.
First from Far West, Nandakrishna Joshi, Rajaram Bhat, Bhuvan Dahal brought Deuda forward. Now there is Chakra Bomb, Tank Timilsina. The next generation also comes. Because it's being passed down. It should be preserved. This is how it should be long-term. The new generation should also take the culture forward by preserving the elements of speech and language. I have also sung in Deuda and Dohori Bara's Simra programs. The audience also heard repetition in the area where Bhojpuri songs were influenced. Culture should be exchanged like that.
The young generation who are involved in the music of our region must also recognize their vocals. Someone's voice is not able to sing Deuda song. Someone is singing modern songs along with Deuda. Deuda has also come to rap. However, no matter where he joined, Deuda's originality could not be killed.
Lately, it seems that people who don't know Dotelli language are using our language and songs in films too. Deepashree Niroula and Deepakraj Giri are using our language in their films. This means that our language has reached commercial films as well, this is a positive aspect. In this way, we think that our language and music should continue in films. It's even better if you can keep it local. This means that Deuda songs have been used from the music industry to the film industry as well and it should be taken as a place up to that level. They are using our language, costumes and music as much as possible in the film, which is also a big thing for us.
The new generation must know their own voice and their own voice to sing Deuda. Everyone should sing Deuda and it is not only by singing that they will be protected. Must continue.
In our village, sisters, mothers and sisters-in-law sing so well Deuda, Thadi Baka, but they have not been able to reach here. Our society does not allow them to become singers. Because I have experienced that too. A married woman can't. After becoming a daughter-in-law, she has to take care of everything at home. So many talents, many better singers than me, have bonded. It is shame, shame and society's tax. Go daughter, daughter-in-law, if you can earn a good reputation in this field, surely many talents would come out. Due to illiteracy, lack of opportunities and platforms, many talents did not get a place in the past. However, now it works even if you post a video on Tiktok. The door of possibility opens. Once it starts, the audience keeps looking for it. The current generation has received education, they know about the country and abroad, technology has taught and helped them to know where there are possibilities.
