Qatar Energy has killed 13 people in an explosion at the Barzan Gas Supply Center in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area. They include Indian and Pakistani workers. 66 workers were injured in the incident. Some are in critical condition. Their identities have not been released.

Qatar Energy gave this information at a press conference on Monday. The press conference was led by Qatar Energy Chairman and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, who is also Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and it was reported that the accident occurred while operating the Barzan Gas Supply Project in the Ras Laffan Industrial City. The plant had been closed for maintenance since last December and was only reopened two days ago.

The explosion at the center on Sunday night at around 10:30 p.m. caught fire. Nepali, Indian and Bangladeshi workers are working in the Ras Laffan area. The injured are being treated at local hospitals.
