French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated his commitment on Saturday to speed up the legal process to ban children under the age of 15 from social media.
"I have asked the government to activate the fast-track process so that it can be passed as quickly as possible," he said in a self-recorded video broadcast on BFM television. In the video, he said he wanted it to be implemented from the start of the next academic year (September). French lawmakers are debating a bill to ban such a ban. Australia last month became the first country to ban children under 16 from using popular and addictive platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Their draft bill will be presented to the French parliament on Monday.
