The death toll from Typhoon Kalmegi in the central Philippines has reached 114, with 127 people still missing. President Ferdinand Marcos has declared a state of emergency.

The latest typhoon in the Philippines has hit Cebu province the hardest. The storm hit Cebu on Tuesday, causing flooding in several cities. The floods swept away cars, riverside shacks and large shipping containers.

In addition to Cebu, the storm also affected the neighboring island of Negros. According to Al Jazeera , more than 200,000 residents affected by the storm were evacuated to safer places. As the storm subsided, those who were evacuated began returning to search for their homes and belongings.

Provincial Governor Pamela Baricuatro described the situation on Tuesday as an “unimaginable and catastrophic disaster.” Scientists have warned that typhoons are becoming more powerful in the Philippines due to climate change caused by human intervention.
