A day after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, India has issued a persona non grata to the diplomats of the Pakistan Embassy in New Delhi and ordered them to leave the country within 7 days.
It has also decided to recall its defense, navy and air force advisers in the Indian Embassy in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
The Security Affairs Committee meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. The Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan is seen as a successful international treaty. Even when there were repeated wars between the two countries, the said treaty was not affected . The treaty was signed between the two countries in 1960.
Similarly, the visa exemption scheme that Pakistani citizens are getting as a member of SAARC countries has also been stopped . The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India held a press conference on Wednesday night and announced 5 decisions taken by the government.
Foreign Secretary Bikram Misri said in a press conference that Pakistani citizens will not be allowed to come to India under the SAARC visa exemption. Under that facility, Pakistani citizens in India have been asked to leave India within 48 hours. Similarly, the Indian government has also decided to close the Attari integrated check post on the border of the two countries in Punjab.
The committee meeting was attended by top security officials including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
