A satellite built by Chepang students has been launched from China. The satellite, built under the 'Slippers to SAT' mission, was launched at 9:45 am on Wednesday, according to the Nepal Space Institute.
The satellite was launched from the Qiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Inner Mongolia, China, by a Kinetica One rocket. This is the first satellite built in Nepal. This satellite is a cube satellite. Students studying in grades 7 and 8 of the Chepang community were involved in the construction of the satellite.
The mission has been carried out with the theme of ‘Slipper to Satellite’, i.e., ‘the journey of people from a community who can barely afford to buy and wear a pair of slippers to the construction of a satellite’.
This satellite designed in Nepal is a ‘satellite bus’ system developed at the initiative of the Institute. In this system, the electrical power system (EPS), the onboard computer (OBC) and the communication system are included in a single circuit board (PCB).
It has been designed in a more advanced way, adopting the technology used by the Nepali-Sat One and Munal satellites. This will free up enough space inside CubeSat for other purposes, says Engineer Rishabh Adhikari, Manager of the Satellite Mission.
