Anthony Semenyo was born in England to Ghanaian parents. He has said that he chose Ghanaian nationality because his family supports Ghana. Ghana was the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup.

He watched the match on television at the age of 10. After that, it was easy for him to choose Ghana. He made his debut for the Ghana national team against Madagascar in the 2023 African Cup of Nations. Since then, he has played 36 games for Ghana, scoring 3 goals.

He can play as both a winger and a midfielder. Born in London, he began his club career with Championship team Bristol City in 2018. He was signed by Bournemouth in January 2023.

He was signed by Manchester City last January for £64 million. Semenyo scored City's only goal in the final against Chelsea. He is playing in his first World Cup.

Ghana, who held England to a goalless draw in their last match, will be hoping to follow up on their 2010 result and reach the knockout stages against Croatia.
