Tribhuvan Army Club's Rajan Rokaya and Dhading's Santoshi Shrestha have won the 21.1-kilometer half marathon, the main event of the Kantipur Half Marathon. Rajan has won the Kantipur Half Marathon for the first time in the men's category, while Santoshi has won the Kantipur Half Marathon for the second time in a row in the women's category.
The 14th edition of the Kantipur Half Marathon was organized by Kantipur Media Group on Saturday with the slogan 'Run for Nepal'. Record-breaking runner Baikuntha Manandhar, who has won three gold medals at the South Asian Games and participated in the Olympics four times, inaugurated the race. KMG Chairman Kailash Sirohiya, Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Swar, and Chief Executive Officer of Global IME Bank, Surendra Raj Regmi, hoisted the flag.
Apart from the half marathon, there were four categories of competition: Corporate and Influencer Run (5 km), Extreme College Run (7 km), Wheelchair Race (3 km). The highest number of runners so far, 4,000, participated in the Kantipur Half Marathon. Earlier, 2,560 people ran in the 2075 Kantipur Half Marathon.
The Kantipur Half Marathon, which started in front of Tinkune, where Kantipur's office is located, passed Tinkune, Koteshwor, Jadibuti, Lokanthali, Gatthaghar, Thimi, Sallaghari, and ended at Jagati Chowk at Koteshwor, Tinkune. Rajan completed the race in 1 hour and 4.03 minutes.
The top 3 were dominated by Army players. Arjun Budha came second with a time of 1 hour 6.04 minutes and Sushil Shahi came third with a time of 1 hour 6.5 seconds. Army's Khadak Bahadur Khadka won. Kathmandu's Tirtha Pun came fourth with a time of 1 hour 7.42 minutes, Army's Sanjay Shrestha came fifth with a time of 1 hour 8.02 minutes and Army's Narendra Raut came sixth with a time of 1 hour 9 minutes 03 seconds.
Santoshi became the winner by completing the race in 1 hour 18.11 minutes. She from Dhading had completed it in 1 hour 23.28 minutes last year. The winners of the Kantipur Half Marathon in the men's and women's categories were awarded Rs 150,000 in cash and trophies.
Army's Nisha Pal came second with a time of 1 hour 18.26 minutes and Army's Purnalakshmi Neupane came third with a time of 1 hour 23.13 seconds. Army's Nirmala KC finished fourth with a time of 1 hour 25.54 minutes, APF's Phulmati Rana finished fifth with a time of 1 hour 28.43 minutes and Sonsari Rokaya finished sixth with a time of 1 hour 32.03 seconds.
In the half marathon, the second to sixth place winners received Rs 75, 50, 30, 20 and 10 thousand respectively.
Ajay Pandey won the Extreme College Run (7 km). He won the title by covering the distance in 25 minutes 35.14 seconds. Dharmendra Sharma came second and Bishwaram Kunwar came third. Dharmendra finished the race in 26 minutes 18.40 seconds and Bishwaram finished in 26 minutes 20.45 seconds.
Anusiya Tandukar won the title in the girls' college run. She finished the race in 34 minutes 21.85 seconds. Sajina Ramdam came second in 36 minutes 38.00 seconds and Samjhana Kulung came third in 38 minutes 07.00 seconds. About 1,000 people participated in this college run.
The winner of the college run will go to watch the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL). All the arrangements, including air tickets, will be provided by Extreme Energy. The top three male and female winners in the Corporate and Influencer and College Run categories were awarded various prizes and gift hampers.
Pukar Basnet and Kusum Tamang won the Corporate and Influencer categories. Pukar of Mount Everest Secondary completed the 5-kilometer race in 17 minutes 42:60 seconds. Ramchandra Shrestha of Shree Sagarmatha Saving and Credit came second in 18 minutes 20 seconds and Yun Rai of Jayamata Durga Yatayat came third in 19 minutes 01 seconds. In the women's race, Kusum covered the distance in 24 minutes 28.38 seconds. Kalpana Maharjan came second in 24 minutes 30:01 seconds and Bolibha KC came third in 24 minutes 54:68 seconds. The winners of the corporate run received various gift hamper prizes. Ramesh Khatri and Aishwarya Kumari Kumal won the wheelchair race. Ramesh clocked 9 minutes 29.22 seconds. Deepak Ale Magar came second in 11 minutes 06.02 seconds and Ramkaji Mijar came third in 11 minutes 57.05 seconds. All three of the first three places were taken by Jorpati, Kathmandu.
In the women's category, Aishwarya of Achham finished first in 12 minutes 26.99 seconds. Yami Jhakri Magar of Pyuthan came second in 13 minutes 30.63 seconds and Rajani Rai of Khotang came third in 15 minutes 50.08 seconds. The winner of the wheelchair race received 35 thousand, the second 25 thousand and the third 15 thousand.
