Chandra had secured the bronze medal in the 54 kg weight category of the competition held from December 3 to 14, defeating players from Armenia, Indonesia and Iran. Along with this, Chandra had also secured a prize of 75 thousand US dollars. In the semi-finals, Chandra was defeated by a player from Kazakhstan, who is ranked seventh in the world. Chandra is the only Nepali boxer to win a medal in world boxing. Along with Chandra, 5 players from Nepal participated in the competition. Lal Prasad Upreti in 48 kg, Phunglang Kambang in 51 kg, Khagendra Roka Magar in 60 kg and Deepak Shrestha in 80 kg competed. Lal Prasad made it to the quarterfinals and won 10,000 US dollars. The rest of the players were eliminated in the first round. The coaches were Prakash Thapa Magar, Deepak Maharjan and Sujit Pun Magar. Member-Secretary Mehta congratulated Chandra on achieving the historic achievement and said that the medal won by Chandra has made all Nepalis happy. Chandra said that this achievement was possible with everyone's support and cooperation and said that he will focus on achieving more success. Boxing Federation Vice President Shyamkaji Awale expressed the opinion that Chandra's medal has made not only boxing but the entire nation proud.
