Both matches of Jai Trophy Men's Elite Cup organized by Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) have ended in draw. The two-day match between Army and Police and Wagmati and Madhesh ended in a draw. A total of four teams will participate in the competition. This competition is going to be held in memory of the former president of CAN, Jayakumarnath Shah.

 

Army and police draw

Shahab Alam has performed the best bowling in domestic cricket. Playing for Tribhuvan Army Club, he took 8 wickets against Nepal Police Club in Jai Trophy Men's Elite Cup two-day cricket tournament on Monday. Having taken 5 wickets the previous day, he also took the remaining 3 wickets of the police. 

Police started the day's play with 103-7 at the Narayani Cricket Stadium. The team was all out after adding 22 runs. Gulshan Jha scored 47 runs from Police. He became Shahab's first victim after adding 13 runs to his previous day's tally. He hit 3 fours and a six off 54 balls. 

Prem Tamang was 10 off 39 balls and Shravan Yadav was out without opening his account. Both were dismissed by Shahab. Shahab took 8 wickets with 58 runs in 15.1 overs with 2 maidens. Ritesh Baral from Kathmandu (Zone 3) took 7 wickets against Nepalgunj (Zone 5) in 2057. Police's Lalit Rajwanshi took 7 wickets for 47 runs in the first innings. 

Despite Shahab's performance, the army is stopped by the police. Army could score only 121 runs in the first innings. Police scored 125 runs in reply. Army was bowled out for 175 runs in the second innings. 

Sompal Kami scored an unbeaten 82 and Tritraj Das scored 34 runs. Sompal hit 10 fours and 1 six off 138 balls. Santosh Karki 7, Bhim Sarki 15, Kushal Malla 2, Basir Ahmed and captain Vinod Bhandari were dismissed for 1, Pawan Karki 9, Vivek Yadav 11, Shahab 3 and Akash Chand 4. Police's Kushal Bhurtel took 4 wickets, Gulshan Jha 3 and Lalit Rajwanshi 2 wickets. 

After getting a target of 172 runs, the police lost 5 wickets in 42 overs and scored only 88 runs, the match ended in a draw. Army got 14 points and Police got 15 points. 

Police openers Dilip Nath (9) and Kushal Bhurtel (5 runs) did not get off to a good start again. Gulshan also scored 1 and Rashid Khan returned to the pavilion with 10 runs. Amit Shrestha scored the highest 36 runs from Police. Arjun Saud scored 19 off 94 balls and Shankar Rana scored 5 runs off 9 balls to help the match end in a draw. Shahab and Akash took 2-2 and Pawan took one wicket. Army's Shahab, who took a total of 10 wickets, became the player of the match.

When Mayan's bat moved

Batsman Mayan Yadav became the first batsman to score a century in Jai Trophy Men's Elite Cup two-day cricket. He from Madhesh Province scored 106 runs against Bagmati Province at Janakpur's Ramjanaki multi-purpose stadium on Monday.

In a game dominated by the spinners especially the bowlers, Mayan's century came close to stopping Madhesh Vijay. After he hit 12 fours and 2 sixes while playing 108 balls, Madhesh announced the end of the second innings at 211-9 and gave Bagmati a target of 164 runs. 

Bagmati lost 6 wickets in 20 overs and scored only 97 runs, the match ended in a draw. Both teams have collected 15 points from this match. 

Madhesh was under pressure after falling behind by 48 runs in the first innings. He was caught by Rit Gautam at slip by Bagmati captain Sandeep Lamichhane in the 35th over. 

Captain Harishankar Sah, who came as the opening pair with Mayan, scored 11 runs in 12 balls and was dismissed by Region Dhakal. Neeraj Kumar Yadav scored 17 runs off 17 balls with 3 fours. Shahil Patel was out for nil and Himanshu Dutt for 8 runs. 

Mayan shared a partnership of 51 runs with Vishal Patel for the seventh wicket. Mayan was on his way to a century by hitting two consecutive fours and a six off Sandeep's ball. But in the 22nd over, Sandeep dismissed Vishal for a run. Mayan completed his century in the 34th over by playing 102 balls. In that sequence he hit 12 fours and 2 sixes. Abhishek Tiwari scored 19, Rupesh Singh 14, Bhulwan Sahni scored 4 runs and got out. Sandeep took 5 wickets with 88 runs in 17 overs and Surya Tamang took 2 wickets with 35 runs in 8.2 overs. 

From Bagmati, Shubh Kansakar scored 23 in 20 balls, Pratish Jisi scored 16 in 24 balls, Rit Gautam scored 25 in 17 balls, Ashutosh Gahia added 17 runs in 26 balls and Ishan Pandey was dismissed for zero. From Madhesh, Harishankar gave away 14 runs in 5 overs and 3, Rupesh, Abhishek and Ranjitkumar took 1 wicket each. 

Bagmati, who started the day's match with 34-2, were bowled out for 150 runs. Ishan 9, Shubh 35, Roshan Vick nil, Uttam Thapamar 1 and Pratish were out for nil. Sandeep and Nandan Yadav shared a partnership of 48 runs for the eighth wicket. Sandeep scored 33 runs off 22 balls by hitting 3 fours and 1 six. Nandan added 41 runs for the last wicket with Rajan Dhakal. Reason scored 13 runs unbeaten off 23 balls. Nandan scored 47 runs from 55 balls hitting 6 fours and 1 six. Madhesh's Rupesh took 32 in 10 overs and Abhishek took 4-4 with 25 runs in 6.5 overs and Vishal and Ranjith Kumar took 1-1 each.
