Leaders including President Ravi Lamichhane have been discussing with aspirants throughout the night to unanimously select office bearers in the National Independent Party (RSWP). Although aspirants withdrew their candidacies for some posts after the discussion, the number of aspirants for the posts of General Secretary and Joint General Secretary has not decreased.

Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has withdrawn his claim for the open Vice President post. Shrestha has withdrawn from giving his candidacy after consulting with party President Ravi Lamichhane and another contender, Swarnim Wagle, who is also the Finance Minister.

Sobita Gautam and Toshima Karki have filed their candidacies for the post of Women Vice President. Initially, Samiksha Baskota and Indira Rana Magar, who were trying to become Vice President candidates, have supported Gautam. President Lamichhane had deputed Swarnim Wagle to discuss with aspirants to unanimously select the leadership for the post of Women Vice President. Later, after Lamichhane himself spoke, Baskota and Rana withdrew from the contest.

Rana told Kantipur, ‘Honorable Swarnim Wagle had come and talked. I had said that I would also be a candidate because he would represent the indigenous people.’ Later, President Lamichhane spoke to Rana. After that, she agreed to support Gautam.

Baskota, an aspirant for the post of vice-president, has also supported Gautam. She, however, withdrew her claim after meeting top leaders. She has already become the parliamentary committee chairperson and a central member of the party and her demand was to be given more responsibility in the party in the future.

Toshima Karki is preparing to file her candidacy for the post of vice-president. Her proposer is Lima Adhikari, an aspirant for the post of vice-president. Adhikari is the outgoing treasurer. She had been demanding from the party leadership that she be made the vice-president. After winning the central membership, she changed her stance and supported Karki after not getting support from the leadership.

Shishir Khanal has withdrawn from the post of General Secretary. He has said that he has withdrawn his candidacy to prioritize party unity, institutional strengthening, and consensus in leadership selection. In a statement made public on social media, Khanal stated that he has decided to withdraw from the election for the post of General Secretary that he had claimed with the aim of institutionalizing the achievements made at the first historic general convention and further strengthening the party.

Apart from Khanal, 7 leaders had announced their candidacies for the post of General Secretary. Outgoing General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti, outgoing Joint General Secretary Bipin Acharya, leaders Ganesh Parajuli, Manish Jha, Ganesh Karki had announced their candidacies. Similarly, the then General Secretary of the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Ranju Darshana, Sagar Dhakal, and Pramod Neupane had also announced their candidacies for the post of General Secretary. Leaders including President Lamichhane had held discussions with the aspirants to reach a consensus on the post of General Secretary, but no agreement was reached.

Milan Limbu, Ashim Shah, Bablu Gupta, Yagyamani Neupane, Pukar Bam, Sulabh Kharel and others have announced their candidacies for the post of Joint General Secretary for men. Jwala Sangraula, Nisha Dangi and Nisha Mehta have announced their candidacies for the post of Women. Discussions are also underway between them.

Despite working all night, the RSVP Central Election Commission has not been able to announce the names of the elected central members. Due to this, the process has not been able to move forward even after filling the candidacy forms for the office bearers. There is a provision in the RSVP that a central committee member must have won to become a candidate for an office bearer.

The RSVP has fixed the structure of the 158-member central working committee through its statute, which has a mixed system of directly elected, inclusive, provincial representation and members nominated by the president. The number of office bearers has been increased to 19, including 1 President, 1 Senior Leader, 3 Vice Presidents (1 open, 1 female and 1 nominated), 2 General Secretaries (1 nominated), 5 Joint General Secretaries (2 open, 1 female, 2 nominated), 1 Spokesperson (nominated), 3 Joint Spokespersons (1 female, all nominated). There is also a provision to nominate 1 Treasurer and 2 Joint Treasurers according to the principle of inclusion.
