Congress MP Basna Thapa has said that Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal's statement that he will 'break the legs' of contractors who do not work is against the rule of law. In a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives, she said that legal action can be taken against construction entrepreneurs who do not work. 'I wanted to discuss some important issues with the honorable minister under the Infrastructure Development Committee today. I especially wanted to express my opinion on the expression 'do not break the legs of contractors' that has been going viral since yesterday. But the minister himself was not present. This is the first time that our committee meeting and discussion has been held without a minister,' she said.
She said that if action is necessary against construction entrepreneurs who do not work, they should be brought within the legal framework, blacklisted or other legal measures should be taken.
She said that the language of physical action is not acceptable. 'Today, we believe that even animals should not be physically abused or beaten, but contractors are also citizens. If someone has acted against the law, there is a system to blacklist them, take legal action, or initiate necessary administrative procedures. It is a sad matter that expressions that trample on the values of democratic governance and the rule of law are made in a place where a working environment should be created,' she said.'
