After being released on bail, former Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that he was released due to lack of grounds and evidence to prosecute. He said on social media, "Although the government has been illegally detained for 13 days with prejudice and vindictiveness, I have finally been released due to lack of grounds and evidence to prosecute." Oli also informed that he will remain in the hospital for a few days due to adverse health conditions. Earlier, his personal secretary Rajesh Bajracharya had also informed Kantipur that Oli will be under the supervision of doctors for a few days and that he will undergo a stone surgery on Monday.
Oli, who was arrested for investigation into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, was released on bail by the police on Thursday morning. Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ramesh Thapa told Kantipur that Oli was released in the custody of his wife Radhika Shakya as per the Supreme Court order.
Hearing the writ petition filed by the Oli family for custodial interrogation, the court had ordered his release after the expiry of the five-day extension granted by the Kathmandu Court on Monday. A bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Sunil Kumar Pokharel had stated that the detention ‘cannot be said to be against the law’, but had ordered the case to be decided after completing the investigation during the extended period and to proceed accordingly. ‘If that fails, after the third extension of the period, Oli and the writer shall be released from custody and further investigation shall be completed’, the order stated.
