Ramesh Prasai was born blind. Both his eyes are completely covered by skin. However, his limited vision never stopped his talent. He is known as a talented person who speaks clearly, engages in every subject and presents himself with confidence.
Now his voice is resonating in the Federal Parliament House, where he has started a new journey as a proportional representative of the National Independent Party. Born in 2050 BS in the remote Maiyakhola village of Taplejung, Ramesh's childhood was not easy. He started his life with these three challenges: remote geography, limited resources and blindness. From an early age, he had a different ability. He had a strong desire to learn, and he was eager to go to school.
However, it was not easy to fulfill that desire. There was no special school for blind children in the village. He had to struggle for education. Finally, his family decided to leave the village for him and move to Jhapa.
At the age of eight, he and his family moved to Jhapa. He first opened the door to formal education at Durga Secondary School in Garamani, Jhapa. Students like him were taught in groups there. Studying up to grade 5 gave him the foundation to become self-reliant.
After completing grade 5, he went to Gyanchakshu School in Dharan. Which is a leading educational institution in the country for visually impaired students. There, he not only read textbooks, but also learned to understand life. He passed his SLC from Gyanchakshu. Moving towards higher education, he completed his B.Ed. After completing his education, his next goal was employment and self-reliance. In 2076 BS, he moved to Kathmandu, looking for a new opportunity. In Kathmandu, he initially sang in the program 'Indreni'. From there, his musical journey became stronger. He remade the old song 'Ringke Bungko Ragolai.....' sung by Suresh Gandarbha and gained more attention. He started winning the hearts of the audience through live folk singing. After the 2079 BS elections, he entered television journalism. He conveyed his ideas to a wide audience through the media. He joined Galaxy 4K Television. The program 'Lalmohar' he hosted there gave him more recognition. During this time, he became close to RSPB President and former arrestee Ravi Lamichhane. The relationship that initially started with personal acquaintance paved the way for him to enter politics through the media. Ramesh Prasai was also involved in the establishment process of the National Independent Party from the beginning. He said that he had discussed the formation of the party with Ravi Lamichhane several times. He became an active participant in the idea of creating a new political alternative. Today, he is not only the co-spokesperson of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party, but has established himself as an influential leader of the party. He received 18,223 votes (about 95 percent) in the internal election held to select proportional candidates. He currently lives in the border town of Kakadbhitta in Jhapa. In his personal life too, he is considered a simple, friendly and positive-minded person. He married Nanda in 2077 BS. Nanda also worked at Indreni. That's where they met and later that relationship turned into marriage. Nanda runs an ashram called 'Inner Vision Nepal' in Kathmandu. Where orphaned children are dependent.
Ramesh is not only a politician. He is also a motivational speaker. His life gives a message that vision is not only in the eyes, but also in the mind. And when the mind is bright, darkness cannot block the way. After becoming an MP, Ramesh has two or three commitments. The first is to make the election promise of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) meaningful. To improve service delivery, bring good governance, and end the division in the judiciary and other sectors forever.
Having made darkness his friend and embarking on a journey towards light, Ramesh is now standing on the country's political stage, with the same confidence, the same clear voice, and the same urgency for change.
