The UML has released a manifesto with the ambitious goal of doubling tourist arrivals within five years, promoting the tourism sector as a major economic engine for the coming period.
The party has announced that it will brand Nepal in the global tourism market as a unique destination offering 'mysterious mountains, stunning natural, religious and cultural diversity and extraordinary adventure experiences'. It is mentioned that aggressive promotion will be made in the international market through the 'Destination Nepal' campaign. In 2025, there are statistics that about 1.2 million tourists entered Nepal annually .
According to the manifesto, tourism infrastructure development, market promotion, expansion of air services and identification and development of new destinations will be accelerated.
The party is committed to improving service quality and extending the stay of tourists by making 'tourist safety the first priority' and 'heartwarming, unforgettable Nepali hospitality' its main mantra.
A plan has been presented to collaborate with flight service providers to facilitate international flights and to make domestic air services safe, reliable and comfortable. It is also stated that Nepal will be made a more attractive destination by reviewing the visa process and domestic flight fares.
The private sector will be encouraged to build and operate luxury resorts, eco-lodges and wellness centers. There is a plan to aggressively promote Nepal's diverse tourism areas and experiences through social media, international travel bloggers, influencers, documentaries and films. The party has stated that the active participation of the Nepali diaspora will be ensured in this campaign.
Employment and income in villages and cities
The manifesto has put forward the expansion of tourism as a means of creating employment and income in both villages and cities. The party has set the goal of strengthening the local economy through the 'long stay, more spending' strategy. The UML has given a clear signal to develop tourism as a major basis for overall economic transformation.
