The Nepali Congress-UML-JSP-Nepal alliance has won a landslide victory in the 17-seat National Assembly election held on Sunday. As per the distribution among the alliance, the Nepali Congress won 9 seats, the UML won 8, and the JSP won 1 seat.
With this result, the 'size and power' of the parties in the National Assembly has also changed. The Congress has risen from the second to the first largest party, while the NCP, which was in the first place, has fallen to the second place, losing 8 seats. The UML remains in the third place.
In Koshi, Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Congress has emerged unopposed, while Roshni Meche and Somnath Portel of the UML have won from this province in the election held on Sunday. In Madhesh, Ranjit Karna and Dharmendra Paswan of the Congress, Rekha Jha of the UML, and Mahantha Thakur of the JSP Nepal have been elected. From Bagmati, Geeta Devkota of the Congress and Prem Prasad Dangal of the UML have been elected as members of the National Assembly.
Similarly, Jagat Timilsina of the Congress and Samjhaja Devkota of the UML have come to the National Assembly from Gandaki. Ram Kumari Jhankri of the UML and Vasudev Ghimire and Chandra Bahadur KC of the Congress have been elected from Lumbini. Lalit Jung Shahi of the Congress and Meena Singh Rakhal of the UML have won in Karnali. UML's Leela Kumari Bhandari and Congress's Khamma Bahadur Khati have become members of the National Assembly from the Far West.
Elections for one-third of the members of the National Assembly are held every two years. Currently, one of the 19 vacant seats is from the nominated quota, and one of the 18 seats that should have been elected was unopposed, so elections were held for the remaining seats on Sunday.
Congress has now become the leading party in the 59-member National Assembly with 25 seats. 9 MPs have been added to the 16 currently incumbent of Congress. 8 out of 10 UML MPs had their terms expiring. Those whose terms expired were Indira Devi Gautam, Gopal Bhattarai, Tulsakumari Dahal, Devendra Dahal, Bhagwati Neupane, Bimala Ghimire, Sharada Devi Bhatta and Sumitra BC. The National Assembly of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) formed after the merger of the two parties had 25 MPs, including 17 from the then Maoists and 8 from the Unified Socialists. Of these, it has lost 8 whose terms have expired. The terms of office of Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami, Gangakumari Belbase, Jag Prasad Sharma, Taman Swar, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Maya Prasad Sharma, Radheshyam Paswan and Beduram Bhusal from the NCP had expired.
There were one person each from the then JSP Nepal and the Democratic Socialist Party whose terms of office had expired. These two parties have been merged. The unified JSP Nepal had four MPs in the National Assembly. In which the terms of office of Mrigendra Kumar Singh and Shekhar Kumar Singh have expired. Through the alliance, JSP has secured one seat. In which the party's patron Thakur was elected.
The term of office of Bamdev Gautam, who was appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, has also expired. The formal farewell of all MPs whose terms of office have expired is taking place on 20 Falgun.
The size and power equation of the parties will change from 21 Falgun, including the new MPs elected to the National Assembly. The National Assembly MPs elected on Sunday will start work only after 21 Falgun. The election of members of the National Assembly includes 83-year-old Mahantha Thakur to Roshni, who became the first MP from the Meche community.

Karna of the Congress won in the minority ‘cluster’ from Madhesh. He got 8,093 votes, while his rival Ramanandan Prasad of the NCP got 1,361 votes. Similarly, Thakur of the JSP Nepal won by getting 7,725 votes, while his rival Laxman Poudel of the NCP got 1,805 votes.
In the Dalit ‘cluster’, Paswan of the Congress won from Madhesh by getting 7,904 votes, while his rival Ramanandan Prasad of the NCP got 1,376 votes.
Devkota of the Congress and Dangal of the UML were elected from Bagmati for the other group. Devkota got 6,239 votes. Dangal got 6,205 votes. In Bagmati, NCP's Saroj Kumari Jha got 2,522 votes and NEMKIPA's Kabita Maharjan got 197 votes. In other groups, NCP's Prem Prasad Sapkota got 2,541 votes and NEMKIPA's Bikram Dhukuchhu got 197 votes.
From Gandaki, Congress's Timilsina was elected with 5,033 votes, while her rival NCP's Kapil Lama got only 941 votes. UML's Devkota was elected from Gandaki's women's group with 5,014 votes. Her closest rival, NCP's Goma Luintel Ghimire, got 941 votes. Janamorcha candidates Shankar Prasad Baral and Laxmi Baskota got 76 votes each.
In Lumbini, UML's Jhankri was elected with 6,303 votes. From the Congress, Ghimire was elected in the disabled group with 6,322 votes and from the other group, Chandra Bahadur KC was elected with 5,977 votes. In Lumbini, the NCP candidates Durga Kumari Bhandari got 1,362 votes, Sarban BK got 1,601 votes and Brihaspati Adhikari got 1,832 votes.
From Karnali, Shahi of the Congress and Rakhal of the UML got 3,278 votes and 3,145 votes. Buddhi Prasad Sharma and Anju Mahatara (Shahi) were the candidates from the NCP. Sharma got 1,639 votes and Mahatara (Shahi) got 1,734 votes.
Bhandari of the UML and Khati of the Congress were elected from the Sudurpaschim. Bhandari got 3,984 votes while Khati got 3,969 votes. Roji Basnet of the NCP got 1,676 votes and Tikaram Jaishi got 1,805 votes.
