Balendra Shah (Balen), the prime ministerial candidate of the National Independent Party (NISP), has refused to hold a public debate.
He is a candidate for the House of Representatives from Jhapa-5. Shah has refused to accept the demand for a public debate on the future policies and programs of the future Prime Ministerial candidates on the same platform.
On Sunday morning, UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had said that he was ready for a public debate. Both have filed their candidacies from Jhapa-5.
Oli had written on social media that he was ready to participate in a public debate on the agenda of the parties seeking to lead the country, what they have done in the past in building the country, and what the roadmap, plan and blueprint for the work to be done now are.
Reacting to Oli's comment, Shah wrote that he would not participate in the debate. 'It is right to accept yourself as a person who burned the country, but you knew where the leaders' houses were. You yourself burned 24 cardboard boxes to hide the terrorism that killed children on the 23rd,' he wrote, refusing to debate, 'When will you accept yourself as a terrorist? After that, we will do other things. Standing on the same stage with the murderer of 76 children and his accomplices will be understood as me joining them.'
Shah from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Oli from the UML, and President Gagan Thapa from the Congress have been declared the candidates for Prime Minister. Congress Joint General Secretary Uday Shamsher Rana had also put forward the idea that there should be a public debate between the Prime Ministerial candidates.
