Outgoing Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his desire to contest the election from his home district of Dadeldhura.
Deuba has been winning elections from Dadeldhura continuously since 2048 BS.
Deuba has expressed his desire to contest the election for the last time after newly elected President Gagan Thapa and Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma requested him to assume a parental role.
According to a Congress official, his name is included in the list put forward by the Deuba group. It also includes the name of his wife Arju Rana, who is also a former foreign minister.
Although they are positive about Deuba, President Gagan Thapa and Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma are suggesting to Deuba-affiliated leaders that Arju Rana, who is also a former foreign minister, not contest the election herself.
‘It is almost certain about Deuba, but it is not certain about Arju,’ said an official of the central working committee.
