Congress Deuba faction leader Shekhar Koirala has claimed that Gagan Thapas was not officially elected but was expelled from the Nepali Congress.
Speaking on behalf of the establishment party, which has reached the Election Commission to claim its legitimacy, Koirala claimed that some friends may have collected signatures and come for an update, but they have also submitted proof that those signatures have been withdrawn.
‘The statute does not give anyone or any office bearer the right to call a special convention. Will the Election Commission accept it if a commissioner goes to Tundikhel and says that there will be no candidacy registration on Magh 6?’ Koirala said, ‘The same question is here too. Some friends have said the same. We have submitted proof that the friends who have submitted signatures have been withdrawn.’
Koirala said that they do not have to come to the Election Commission and claimed that whatever is legal in a democratic system will be implemented. ‘40 percent of the general convention delegates have the right to call a convention, but the agenda and all the procedures for it should be made by the central working committee,’ he said, ‘The statute also says this. The entire Central Working Committee is present at the Election Commission and is with the establishment.'
