There is no 'ba' in the Congress who says don't speak: General Secretary Thapa

What you should know

Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that there is no 'ba' within the Congress and that no one should stop speaking just because they say no.

Speaking at the special general convention, he said, ‘Congress is not a party of slaves and corpses. Congress is a party of living people.’ He also said that no question has died in Congress. He added, ‘A party that dies of questions cannot raise questions in society.’

He said that there is no master and no slave in the party and that everyone is equal. He said, ‘Those who are higher up should bow down and salute the members who are lower down.’ He also said that this was a struggle within the party.

He said that some party members came to the special general convention due to differences in understanding the country and the people, not a struggle for power, but something did not come. He also said that there is no level in Congress, everyone has rights and the lower level members have the most rights.

He said that party members have questioned the party’s not functioning properly, holding elections together with one party and forming a government together with another party and acting as if everything is over after being out of the government. He said that he did not know where the general convention would end, saying, "This is a special general convention requested by the members. The members have demanded a change in policy and a change in leadership. I do not know where it will end. That gathering will decide. I have to accept that."

He also said that it was not a struggle for power within the party, but a struggle for values and norms. He said that on Bhadra 23 and 24, not only Gen-G but many citizens of Nepal took to the streets to express their anger and dissatisfaction. He said that citizens were angry with the government and the parliament. He said that people were angry not with individuals but with misrule and corruption and were also angry with the rule of Nepo Baby. He said, "That is something that needs to be understood and addressed. That is why a special general convention has been held."
