UML-Congress alliance candidate Sunil Thapa has been elected unopposed as a member of the National Assembly.

'He is unopposed as only one person has been nominated,' said Tirtharaj Adhikari, information officer of the election office. 'We will make an official announcement after completing the process.' 

Thapa became unopposed after Hemraj Ghimire of Sankhuwasabha, who was nominated by the NCP on another side, was absent from the nomination registration.

Khemraj Sundas of Morang on the Dalit side of the NCP and Namita Neupane on the women's side have registered their nominations. Neupane's proposer is Ganesh Upreti and his seconder is Geeta Timsina. Sundas' proposer is Sapana Darji and his seconder is Namonarayan Majhi.
