What you should know
Even on the last day of candidate nomination registration for the 2079 House of Representatives elections, the then Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had said that the elections would be held from Chitwan-3.
To convince them of the same, he moved to Bharatpur Mahanagar-14, Shivnagar . After moving to the house with the Panchebaja Lashkar, Dahal had said that his ties with Chitwan had become even stronger . Despite saying this, he ultimately did not see Chitwan-3 as safe and reached Gorkha-2 .
At that time, after moving from Chitwan to Gorkha, Dahal had said that he had a history of contesting elections from new places, saying, ‘I have previously contested elections from Rolpa, Kathmandu, Siraha and Chitwan in Madhesh . In this way, I feel like I am the first in the history of Nepal to contest elections by traveling to the east and west of the country, Madhesh and the mountains.’ Is Dahal experiencing a similar mood in the upcoming House of Representatives elections ?
In fact, Dahal contested the first Constituent Assembly election in 2064 from Kathmandu-10 and Rolpa-2. Dahal, who entered parliamentary politics through rebellion, won from both the seats in that election. In the second Constituent Assembly election in 2070, Dahal contested from Kathmandu-10 and Siraha-5. After being defeated from Kathmandu, Dahal also won from Siraha with great difficulty. In 2074, he won from his home district, Chitwan-3.
After the 2074 local level election in which he allied with the Nepali Congress and made his daughter Renu Dahal the mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, many had speculated that Dahal would contest the upcoming election from Chitwan. But proving such speculations wrong, Dahal reached Gorkha-2. Where will Dahal contest the election from this time? Dahal himself does not have the answer to this question. Dahal, who became the coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party by uniting 17 scattered components of various groups and subgroups, has been recommended as a candidate by the party's district committees from 9 different districts. Dahal has been recommended from Kalikot, Nuwakot-1, Sindhuli-2, Ramechhap, Mahottari-4, Gorkha-1, Rolpa, Rukum East and Kailali-3 in the far west.
Dahal, who was born in Lewade of Annapurna Rural Municipality in Kaski-3 and migrated to Chitwan, is in the safe constituency calculation this time as well as in the previous elections. With former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai preparing to contest from Gorkha-2, Dahal has to find a constituency to win the election. According to NCP leaders, Rukum East is considered the safest constituency for Dahal. So far, no candidate from other parties has won the election to the House of Representatives from Rukum.
