The three major groups in alternative politics are now set to contest the elections under the same party and symbol.

The day after the agreement was reached between the Rashtriya Swatantra Party and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah, the Ujjal Nepal Party, under the patronage of Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, has also been included in the unity.

Balendra witnessed the unity agreement signed by Rashtriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane and Ujjal Nepal Party President Anup Kumar Upadhyay. Kulman was also present during the signing.

The agreement states that after the unity, the party's name will remain 'National Independent Party', and its flag and election symbol will remain the same.

It is said that Rabi will remain the president and Kulman, DP Aryal and Swarnim Wagle will be the vice presidents.

The agreement states that the young activists and experienced experts in the Ujjal Nepal Party will be appropriately adjusted to make the party's organizational structure more capable and broad by adopting the Ujjal Nepal campaign. It is said that competence, inclusiveness and public image will be taken as the basis while assigning responsibilities.

Although it was not mentioned in the agreement, the leaders have stated that an agreement has been reached to give Kulman a share of about 17 percent in the central committee and the upcoming House of Representatives elections. Accordingly, a list of 18 candidates has been prepared from the Kulman side for the proportional election system. ‘Accordingly, an agreement has been reached to manage the party office bearers and our friends in the central committee,’ said a leader close to Kulman, ‘The distribution of tickets for the direct election will also be almost the same.’

In the previous discussions between Ravi, Balendra and Kulman, no agreement could be reached on the issue of power sharing. Even after the unity agreement was reached between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Balendra, the three leaders remained in dialogue until midnight on Sunday. The dialogue held at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City office also did not reach a conclusion.

According to sources participating in the talks, the RSS had proposed giving Kulman a proportional and direct ticket and a 10 percent share in the party structure. But he maintained his stance of 30 percent. He sought a respectful presence, arguing that his party structure was in place and had progressed a lot.

While Ravi and Balendra were in talks, Kulman had claimed an executive role. ‘There was also a proposal to form a presidium later, but later, considering the fact that the mandate was bigger than the post, it was decided that all parties should adopt a little flexibility,’ said a leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Seeing that it was impossible to reach an agreement with Ravi and Balendra, Kulman had been busy since Monday morning preparing a closed list of proportional candidates to be submitted to the Election Commission by the Ujjaya Nepal Party. At that time, Ravi and Balendra tried to talk again, but Kulman did not show any desire. But in the meantime, Sudhan Gurung of ‘The Council of Gen-G’ along with James Karki and Ojaswi Thapa had reached Kulman’s place. They urged Kulman, saying, ‘You three have to meet, go and talk.’

According to Sanjeev Bhattarai, a central member of the Ujjaya Nepal Party, the distance between the two sides had increased as repeated meetings ended in disagreement. ‘But both sides understood that everyone should go together. We were at Kulman Sir’s house till 2:30 am yesterday (Sunday) and were adamant that we should come together,’ he said. ‘He was requesting that the Sudhans should also come together, that they should go according to the spirit of the Gen-G movement.’

Bhattarai said that Sudhan himself had taken Kulman with him at 2 pm on Monday. Kulman had reached the office of RSVP leader Asim Shah in Kamalpokhari in Sudhan’s car. There, an agreement was reached after discussions with Ravi and Balendra. ‘The Gen-G friends, including Sudhan, played a very good role in this unity,’ Bhattarai said. ‘It took time to prepare the draft of the agreement, so it took time to sign it.’

After the agreement, Mayor Balendra had a brief conversation with Gen-G leader Rijan Rana Magar. He said that he tried to provide a solution according to the wishes of Gen-G. ‘I do two things, if you explain the solution to the problem, I have to work. The other brother has to find a solution himself, if I can, I will say I can. If I can’t, I will say I don’t have a solution,’ he told Magar.

Gen-G said that expressing happiness over this agreement, he has tried to reach a different understanding with the top leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to follow the ‘mandate’ of the movement. According to Nepal Gen-G Front coordinator Raksha Bam, talks are underway to reach a written understanding with a commitment to adopt the Gen-G movement. ‘It has been recommended to form a negotiation team from both sides and discuss it on Tuesday,’ Bam told Kantipur, ‘We have to ensure issues from making Gen-G a candidate to keeping it in the party structure.’

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi said that he has adopted the Gen-G movement wholeheartedly. "We will not let the sacrifices of our brothers and sisters who were injured in the movement and our friends who were martyred go to waste," Bam said, quoting Ravi. "There is no need to doubt the spirit of the Gen-G movement." Ravi had stated that they had become a strong force and urged some Gen-G members to sit in opposition.
