A writ petition filed by the CPN-UML against the dissolution of the House of Representatives has been registered.
According to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Koirala, the petition filed by the CPN-UML parliamentary party was registered on Wednesday and the next hearing is scheduled for November 17.
On Tuesday, Mahesh Bartaula, Chief Whip of the dissolved House of Representatives Parliamentary Party, and Sunita Baral, Whip, filed a writ petition demanding the restoration of the parliament. In the writ, it is claimed that the appointment of Prime Minister Sushil Karki is unconstitutional. UML has demanded in the writ that the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives made by the President on 27 Bhadra on the recommendation of Prime Minister Karki should be annulled. UML has demanded in the writ that the period after 24 Bhadra should be considered a zero period and the House of Representatives should be restored.
UML has also demanded in the writ that the President should issue a mandate to start a new process of government formation in accordance with Article 76 of the Constitution. Similarly, it has also demanded an order to the Speaker to restore the House of Representatives and make arrangements to convene a meeting.
