'Shambala' director Meen Bham had been saying for a long time that he would contest the '84 elections. He had openly stated in the media that he was ready to contest the elections when 'Shambala' was released.
However, the Gen-G movement has changed the situation in the country. After the interim government announced the election date on 21 Falgun, Meen is now fully engaged in election preparations.
Earlier, he was planning to complete a film by the 84 elections. But, the situation has changed. Now, he has left the work on that film and is preparing for the elections.
He is eager to contest from Kathmandu constituency no. 3. 'I have been living in Kathmandu constituency no. 3 for a long time. I am integrated with the community here. My first choice is Kathmandu 3,' said Meen, 'but the party has its own mechanism. If the ticket-granting committee sends my leader to my ancestral home in Muguma tomorrow, I should be ready to go. I am fully prepared for the elections.'
He is preparing to rise to the office bearer level in the convention. 'Due to the Gen-G movement, I had to get heated up in 84, not 82. I was preparing for a film,' he says, 'I did not enter politics like artists have entered politics recently. My preparations were already underway, it was a bit sped up.'
Preparations are underway for the elections. However, Meen's current focus is on reforming the party. In the meantime, he has started taking steps towards this by organizing 2/4 programs. After the Gen-G movement, there should be a 'late entry' in the party. He has been raising his voice that the Nepali Congress should have the participation and inclusion of the young generation and Gen-G.
'After the movement, I have a role in party reform so that this matter is heard.' "It's a bit too crowded," he said.
'Shambala' directed by Bham is the first Nepali film to be in the main competition of the Berlin International Film Festival. Bham has already directed 'Kalo Pothi' and 'Basulli' along with 'Shambala'.
