Buddha Air owner Birendra Bahadur Basnet's new party, the Dynamic Democratic Party, has claimed that the country can be transformed within four to six months through tourism, agriculture, and technical education after receiving the responsibility to serve the country.
This new political party, formed after the 'Gen-G movement', had applied for registration with the Election Commission before Tihar.
The dynamic democratic party, formed at the initiative of Basnet, presented its long-term vision by making its first concept public in Bhairahawa.
According to Basnet, currently around 2.4 million international passengers travel through the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu annually, of which only around 1.1 million are tourists.
He says, 'The tourism industry is the biggest potential sector in Nepal. Currently, 700,000 Indian tourists visit Nepal. Our goal is to bring 5 million tourists annually in the coming years and create 3 million new jobs. This can contribute Rs 1.22 trillion to the country's economy.'
Stating that he had to enter politics out of compulsion, Basnet said that his new party has prepared a concept based on tourism, agriculture and quality education as three main pillars.
He gave detailed information about the plan to make Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa a hub for international flights.
He said that according to Airbus' technical study, flights from Bhairahawa to the US and Canada can be made in 15 hours.
'Just as flights are being operated from Delhi to all over the world, similarly it can be done from Bhairahawa,' Basnet said.
He proposed to restructure Nepal Airlines Corporation and take it as a public limited company with 30 percent government and 70 percent public investment.
'The restructuring of the airline is possible within three to six months. Nepal can also be removed from the 'black list' kept by the European Union for 13 years within three months. Both the reason and the solution are known,' he stressed.
Party central member and tourism expert Dnyaneshwar Mahato said that the new party was not seen with a dream in a white cloak, but brought in with a plan.
'This dream was not seen with a white cloak, it was prepared based on study and analysis. We have made a clear business plan. Nepal's tourism potential has been limited to discussion for the past 75 years, now it is time to put it into practice,' he said.
According to Mahato, the party has prepared a plan by collecting data according to world tourism standards.
'We are currently operating four aircraft. When we talk about 50 ships, that is a goal with a plan, not a windfall,' he added.
Radhesh Pant, a central member of the party and former CEO of the Investment Board, said that there is no difficulty in raising the capital needed for the country's development.
'Nepal's banking system already has trillions of rupees idle. The problem is not investment, but clarity of planning. 12 trillion rupees are needed for tourism alone and 21 trillion rupees to complete the overall plan,' Pant said.
According to him, 22,000 new beds need to be added in the Bhairahawa region alone and an investment of 280 billion rupees is required.
'75,000 new beds need to be added in hotels across Nepal. The private sector can be attracted to operate world-class seven-star resorts,' he said.
Stating that the party will also focus on highway and infrastructure improvements, Pant said, 'Tourists currently stay in Nepal for an average of 10 days. To increase their stay, 420 billion rupees should be allocated for highway improvements.'
All these schemes will be implemented in the public-private partnership (PPP) model and it is estimated that an annual income of Rs 2.24 trillion can be generated from this.
The main slogan of the Dynamic Democratic Party is ‘Economic Transformation and Good Governance’. In the upcoming phase, the party is preparing to hold a debate on the challenges and prospects of the agricultural sector in Janakpur and present an education and development blueprint in Surkhet, the capital of Karnali Province.
