Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal has said that the foundation stone inscription placed during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Nagdhunga Tunnel will be reinstalled.
Speaking to journalists today after the formal inauguration of the Nagdhunga–Sisne Khola Tunnel, Minister Lamsal stated that the foundation stone inscription would also be placed.
On Kartik 4, 2076 BS, then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had laid the foundation stone for the tunnel at Tutipakha, Chandragiri Municipality–2, Kathmandu. A group has been protesting, claiming that the inscription bearing his name was removed. However, according to the Department of Roads, the inscription was removed a year ago because, as per the tunnel’s design, a building for CCTV cameras needed to be constructed at the original foundation stone site on the Kathmandu side.
The inscription was then taken and kept at the Department of Roads office in Babarmahal. The department has clarified that the inscription was destroyed in a fire that damaged the department during the Jen–Ji movement.
Minister for Infrastructure Development Lamsal also stated that the country has now entered the era of tunnels. He said that tunnels would continue to be built across the country to facilitate transportation.
