Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee Chairperson Samiksha Baskota has said that human rights activists Binu Yadav and Niharika Rajput should be allowed to meet the Home Minister. She urged the Home Ministry to provide necessary coordination for any citizen to raise their demands.
In today's meeting of the committee, she said that even though the administration has currently brought the issue of self-immolation and overcrowding in Saptari Jail under control, a long-term solution should be found.
Regarding the controversy over the song 'Masterni' involving artists Durgesh Thapa and Priyanka Karki, the Chairperson clarified that the artist concerned has already apologized and that no further process is required as the video has been removed from the official channel.
'Necessary initiatives will be taken in coordination with the concerned bodies regarding citizenship issues, the problem of those displaced by the Upsahkot landslide, and the issues of Binu Yadav and Niharika Rajput,' said President Baskota, 'Especially in cases where citizens want to present their problems to the minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs has been requested to arrange a meeting.'
Binu Yadav and Niharika Rajput, who had demanded to meet Home Minister Sudhan Gurung at the Singha Durbar Gate and convey their problems, were being pursued by the state by the police. They have been going to Singha Durbar for 5 days to convey their problems to the government. Yadav and Rajput were demonstrating at Singha Durbar Gate by ringing the ruling Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) election symbol as a sign that the government that does not listen to them should open its ears.
