The protesting meter badge victims have said that the decision of the Council of Ministers to implement the reports of the three commissions on meter badges is meaningless. Speaking to Kantipur, Nirg Nabin, leader of the Farmers' Workers' Movement Against Meter Badges Nepal, said that the government's decision to implement the report given by the commission is not justified.
'The government has never made the report public, nor has it allowed us to study it,' he said, 'We do not know what is written in the report. Therefore, implementation has no meaning.'
Nabin stressed that an environment should be created in which the state should make a commitment to fulfill their six-point demands. 'We will not bow down to the government's decision,' he said, 'There will be talks. Otherwise, we will hold our own and start the movement. We will reach Kathmandu.'
The victims have mainly demanded the cancellation of fake documents, the creation of a powerful special law against meter badges, the formation of an authority against meter badges, an investigation into the property of usurers, the return of the property of the victims, and ensuring fair economic transactions. The victims had been walking from Janakpur to Kathmandu since the 25th, and Home Minister Sudhan Gurung had held talks with them on Tuesday afternoon after reaching Nijgadh in Bara. The cabinet meeting held in the evening decided to implement the reports of the three commissions based on the discussions of the Home Minister.
Talks are also being held between Home Minister Gurung and the meter badge victims on Wednesday.
