The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has apologized for the release of Nepali citizen Amrit Jha in Iranian custody. Earlier, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal himself had posted on social media that Amrit Jha had been released. On Monday, the Ministry said that Minister Khanal had written that Jha had been released based on information provided by the Nepali Honorary Consul to Iran to Acting Ambassador to Qatar Kumar Rai. The Ministry also informed that Amrit Jha has not been released and that the court has ordered an 'expert report' to be prepared on the case related to him. The Ministry also said that Jha's family has been informed of all these facts. 'The Ministry apologizes for the confusion and inconvenience caused by the unofficial information that Mr. Jha was released while the case was pending in a local court in Iran and he was in detention,' the Ministry said in a statement.

30-year-old Amrit Jha of Udayapur, Gaighat, and seven others were arrested by Iranian security personnel from Keshan Island, located above Hormuz, while they were going to buy oil. The Iranian army took them into custody in the first week of Chaitra.
