Nepali mountaineer Lhakpa Sherpa has successfully scaled Mount Everest for the 11th time, setting a historic record for the most female climbers in the world.
According to Chhangdawa Sherpa at the Everest base camp, Lhakpa reached the world's highest peak at around 9:30 this morning. With this success, she has further increased her world record.
Lhakpa, known as the 'Queen of the Mountains', is currently living in the US. Last year, she came to Nepal to climb Mount Everest, but returned to the US without completing the expedition. At that time, she had said that her goal was to set an 11th record.
Lhakpa had previously climbed Mount Everest 8 times from the north face (towards Tibet) and 2 times from the south face (towards Nepal).
Lhakpa Sherpa is also known as the first Nepali female climber to return safely after climbing Mount Everest. She is historically linked to Nepal's first female Everest climber, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, who also lost her life while returning to the summit. Lhakpa is currently reportedly on her way back to base camp.
