The Supreme Court has ordered the release of former minister and Congress leader Deepak Khadka. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justice Shrikant Poudel has ordered that Khadka can travel abroad only with the permission of the court. Khadka was arrested by the Money Laundering Investigation Department on Chaitra 15 for investigation into money laundering.

He was handed over to the Revenue Investigation Department on Chaitra 30 to conduct further investigation into revenue fraud. However, the Supreme Court has ordered the release of Khadka, saying that an arrest warrant was not issued for him and that the investigation could be carried out even if he was kept out of custody.

Khadka's wife Binita Thapa had filed a writ of acquittal in the court.
