Samita Maya Tamang will be taken care of by the Conflict Victims and Disabled Society in Sankhu. Samita Maya, 10, of Gajuri-4, Dhading, was rescued a few days ago after being kept in a goat cage for 5 years.
A group led by Durganath Dahal, chairman of Navajivan Paropkar Samaj in Takeshwor-7, Futung, had reached Dhading to rescue Samita Maya. According to family sources, Samita Maya was not in a good mental state and was trying to escape and fall from the window, so she was tied up with a shawl and kept in a cage.
After the rescue, Samita was treated at Norvic Hospital. Samita was treated free of charge with the help of Megha Chaudhary, managing director of Norvic Hospital.
After treatment, the doctor confirmed that she had symptoms of autism. Durganath Dahal said that her health condition is improving now. After treatment, she was being kept at the Navajivan Charitable Society. ‘Since we only keep senior citizens, we could not keep her because the care would not be adequate and there could be problems from the legal side,’ he said. According to Dahal, an appeal was also made to Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Sita Badi for support for Samita’s reservation. ‘With the help of Bijendra Kuwar, the program director of the Peace Service Home, arrangements have been made to keep her in the Nepal Sankhu Home for the Conflict-affected and Disabled,’ he said.
The organization, located in Sankhu, Kathmandu, is a non-governmental organization that has been working to improve the living standards of conflict-affected and disabled people since 2005. Founder Chairman Yubaraj Thapa said that this organization currently operates a shelter and has rescued and provided shelter to 55 disabled and conflict-affected people.
