The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to remand Lumbini Province Assembly member Rekha Sharma for three days for investigation. Sharma, elected from the UML, was arrested on Sunday night from Dhumbarahi in Kathmandu. She is accused of committing crimes against children by employing a minor as a domestic worker. A few years ago, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City rescued a girl from her home.

The then Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah wrote about the girl on his Facebook wall on 29 Magh 2081, 'Sir Nanu! The government has decided not to prosecute your perpetrators. Don't panic. The time will come.'

He also mentioned that 'you and many other children like you should study to eradicate such discrimination, crimes and bring those who commit such crimes to justice. Society should understand.'
