The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order on a writ petition filed by Prakash Kumar Khatiwada, who lost three members of the same family in the Saurya Airlines plane crash.

Khatiwada, a resident of Suryabinayak Municipality-2, Balkot, Bhaktapur, had filed a writ petition on Monday, naming the Government of Nepal, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal as defendants. During the first hearing of the writ petition on Tuesday, a single bench of Judge Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma issued a show-cause order and ordered a discussion on the interim order.

According to the court, the writ petition is currently under consideration.

18 months ago, a CRJ-200 aircraft of Saurya Airlines crashed shortly after taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport for Pokhara, killing 18 people, including Captain Manish Ratna Shakya.

4-year-old Adhiraj Sharma, Prija Khatiwada, and Manuraj Sharma died on the spot in the accident. All three are the daughter, grandson, and son-in-law of 55-year-old Prakash Khatiwada, who originally hails from Saptari.

Khatiwada has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, alleging that the accident was a 'mass murder' and demanding a high-level judicial investigation. He has also claimed that there was financial manipulation in the lifting of the suspension imposed on Saurya Airlines and the renewal of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

According to him, it is suspicious that Saurya Airlines' AOC was renewed on 2082 Magh 4, when there are only a few days left for the nomination process for the House of Representatives to begin.

'I have stated during the Supreme Court debate that there was financial manipulation in the lifting of the suspension of Saurya Airlines,' Khatiwada told Kantipur from Saptari on Wednesday evening. 'I have evidence, I will make it public after protecting the sources when the time comes.'

14 bodies and individuals, including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, have been made defendants in this case.
