Turkish Airlines flight number TK 727 (Airbus A330) departing from Tribhuvan International Airport to Istanbul has been diverted to Kolkata, India, after signs of a fire were seen in the right engine during takeoff.

According to a press release issued by the Civil Aviation Office of Tribhuvan International Airport under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAN) on Wednesday at 1:26 pm local time, the aircraft reported a fire in the right engine (right engine on fire) immediately after takeoff.

The pilot reported a fire in the right engine of a Turkish Air plane after takeoff. Following the report, the aircraft held for some time in the Dharke area of ​​Dhading and checked the technical condition. After that, the crew decided to divert to Kolkata, India.

According to the authority, the aircraft landed safely in Kolkata at 3:03 pm Nepali time. There were a total of 236 people on board the aircraft, including 225 passengers and 11 crew members. All passengers and crew members are safe, the authority said.

Due to this incident, two other flights were put on hold at Tribhuvan International Airport for some time, and an Air China flight coming from China to Kathmandu was also diverted, according to the CAN.

According to the authority, further technical investigation into the incident is underway.
