UML's Basanta Kumar Nembang defeated Congress' Bhishmaraj Angdembe by the smallest margin of 96 votes. Now, both Congress and UML have changed candidates in this region. UML has fielded Aindra Sundar Nembang and Congress has fielded Narendra Kumar Kerung.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) did not have much influence in this region in that election. Therefore, UML came first in the proportional representation, Congress came second, and Maoists came third. The RSS got only 1,948 votes in the proportional representation.

In the 2079 election, 16 constituencies across the country were won or lost by a margin of less than 1,000 votes. At that time, the main competition was between the two polar alliances led by Congress and UML. The Congress-led alliance included the then Maoist Center, Unified Socialists, and the Democratic Socialist Party.

Analyst Keshav Dahal says that the calculations at that time do not match the results of this election. According to him, in the 2079 elections, at least 50-60 percent of voters used to side with the party after the party made a decision. But this time, not only the voters but also the workers have reached a point of not accepting the party's decision.

'The calculations of the previous elections do not seem to match this time. The issue at that time was political, this time the face is at the center. This is sad. Now the entire election debate is focused on Jhapa-5,' says Dahal, 'Even UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, who is in a position to know the entire voters, is in a state of uncertainty, he is doubtful.
