UML-Pralopa agreement: Rukum rejected in East, approved in West

What you should know

The agreement for electoral cooperation between the UML and the Progressive Democratic Party (Pralopa) has been rejected by UML Rukum East, while Rukum West has approved it.

UML candidate for Rukum East, Lilamani Gautam, has indicated on social media that he will not accept the agreement, while the agreement has been approved by the secretariat meeting in Rukum West.

UML candidate for Rukum East, Gautam, posted a short video on social media in which party chairman KP Sharma Oli wished him ‘to go to the district and come back after winning the election’ and wrote, ‘The rumors and propaganda that have been circulating about the Rukum East election for the past few days have been clarified from today. You can vote with confidence in the sun symbol in Rukum East. Let’s get excited about the propaganda and preparations from today.’ Responding further to this issue, Gautam said that efforts are being made to reach an agreement so that the Pralopa candidate also supports him.

Meanwhile, in Rukum West, the district committee secretariat meeting held at the UML party office in Musikot on Tuesday has decided to move forward as per the agreement made to support Pralopa candidate Janardan Sharma.

Last Sunday, a central agreement was reached that UML candidates in Rukum East and West would support Pralopa candidates in the districts of Karnali Province except Humla and Jumla and the former Rapti zone, and that Pralopa would support UML candidates in the districts of the former Rapti zone. UML leaders and activists are making public various opinions in favor and against this agreement. Two days after the agreement, UML has come up with different opinions in both districts. On this issue, Pralopa central member Gorakh Bahadur KC has said that the decision of UML Rukum West is welcome, but further discussion and dialogue is necessary on the issue of the east. ‘We are also in the village during the election campaign. We will return to the district and sit down with UML leaders of both districts this evening or tomorrow and move forward,’ he said.
