A dispute has erupted between the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) National Coordination Council in the US over the invitation of Youth and Sports Minister Bablu Gupta to the US.
The NRNA in America is divided into two. A dispute has flared up among the NRNAs over the invitation of Minister Gupta to a youth conference to be held in Dallas, Texas, on January 16.
The NRNA led by Satendra Sah has objected to the invitation of Minister Bablu to the youth conference on the topic of 'Rule of NRNA Youth in the Development of the Nepal Post-Genji Revolution', which was being prepared by the NRNA led by President Bikash Upreti on January 16-17.
The NRNA led by Sah has claimed that since they are official, they have not organized any program and have not invited Minister Gupta. Sah claimed that they are the official NRNA. 'We have not invited anyone to the program and have not organized a program,' he said.
On the other hand, the NRNA led by Upreti has stated that they have only sent an invitation to Minister Gupta. Drona Gautam, spokesperson of the Upreti-led NRNA, has issued a statement claiming that Minister Gupta has been officially invited through the ministry. Gautam told Kantipur that Minister Gupta was invited because they were trying to include Genji in the program they were organizing. He said that the Sah leadership had an intention to influence the program and had put the minister in unnecessary controversy.
'The scheduled program will be organized on January 16 and 17,' spokesperson Gautam said, 'But it is not certain whether Minister Gupta will be present or not.'
In a statement issued by Sandesh Upreti, spokesperson of the Sah-led NRNA, it has been claimed that the program to involve the minister was carried out in a completely unauthorized manner. 'Since the program to which Minister Gupta was invited is economically, socially and legally wrong, we are preparing to file a complaint against it with the US Embassy in Nepal and Homeland Security,' spokesperson Upreti told Kantipur.
