Supreme Court Chief Registrar Bimal Poudel has said that the court is serious about ensuring speedy adjudication of cases related to standards implemented on river and stream banks.
Speaking at an interaction program with media persons regarding the recent negative comments on social media related to the judiciary, he said that the Supreme Court is also serious about the speedy resolution of the case, amid the agitation demanding the repeal of the additional standards implemented on the banks of rivers and streams in the Kathmandu Valley.
However, he said that there will be a method and procedure for resolving any case, and the bench will resolve it according to the method and procedure. On 2080 Poush 3, the Supreme Court had ordered the construction of structures only by keeping an additional 20-20 meters of space on the right and left of the main rivers and streams, including Bagmati, Bishnumati. Earlier, in 2065, the government had set standards of 20 meters on rivers like Bagmati, 9 meters on Dhobi Khola, and 4-12 meters on other streams.
‘I have come to know that there is a rally in Maitighar only today. The issue is our 20-20 meter Bagmati corridor. All the judges are concerned about that issue. We want the court to deliver justice quickly. But there is a method and process for that. It is a matter of going to the bench and delivering justice from the bench according to the method and process,' he said.
The hearing of the Nepal government's appeal in this case in the Supreme Court was scheduled for Thursday itself. But it was postponed as Chief Justice Raut had earlier ordered a hearing.
Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala said that there was a discussion on the negative comments made about the judiciary on social media recently. Chief Justice Prakash Shaman Singh Raut and other judges were present in the discussion.
