Phurba Sherpa, who usually tops her class, has created history by achieving the best results in Business Administration (BBA) at Tribhuvan University. She hails from Ramechhap and passed her SEE from Golden Peak High School in Kathmandu and her class 12 from Global College.
She was a school and college topper in both these exams. At the undergraduate level, she was declared a university topper. ‘Only sometimes I would be second or third in the class. Most of the time I would be first,’ she said when met at the Dasharath Stadium, the convocation venue of Tribhuvan University. ‘I did class 12 from the Faculty of Management. I completed my graduation in BBA. I am not interested in pursuing a postgraduate degree right away.’
She says she will gain some work experience and enroll in a postgraduate degree in a subject of her interest. ‘I have not been able to decide on what subject to pursue a postgraduate degree.’ My area of interest is accounting. I will practice for some time. Then I will enroll for higher education.’
She did her BBA from Shankardev Campus. She also came second in the entrance exam for admission. She believes that if she studies hard every day, she will get good results. Sherpa said, ‘You have to read new things every day. In higher education, you have to read things outside the curriculum. You must also understand how to write.’
She said that it would be easier to get marks if you read things outside the curriculum, both within and outside the country, that are relevant to your subject. She had achieved a 3.98 GPA. At the convocation ceremony, Education Minister and Tribhuvan University Pro-Chancellor Mahavir Pun presented her with the Vice Chancellor’s Medal. She was the first to do so at the undergraduate level. ‘Many students say that they go abroad after getting good results. I prefer to study in Nepal. I want to pursue higher education and serve,' she said.
