UML's newly elected Chairman KP Sharma Oli has warned that the country will come to a standstill if the party leadership is touched. Addressing party workers in Kathmandu after the party's swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, Chairman Oli said this.
He instructed party workers to be ready for the movement, mentioning that the Panchayat-era atrocities of physical attacks on the party leadership have begun. He said, 'The UML leadership has not been affected by propaganda rumors. Now there are rumors of physical attacks or the resumption of Panchayat-era atrocities of filing fake cases. This media trial may be a real rumor. I want to tell you, the country should come to a standstill the day the UML leadership is touched. This government must fall. This government will be toppled. For this, the CPN (UML) should be prepared from all over the country.'
President KP Sharma Oli, who was elected for the third term, has said that the agreement between Gen–G and the government is illegal. He called the agreement a drama, saying that the government had made an unauthorized agreement with Gen–G.
He said, ‘It is a drama without art. It is a vulgar drama. It is a drama that will push the country towards discomfort. Therefore, the UML rejects it. It will not allow it to be implemented.’ He also said that political parties should move forward together.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, who was elected for the third term, has said that the current government is preparing for a conspiracy without preparing for the election. Speaking after taking the oath, he said that the government is doing unauthorized boasting, ‘We strongly reject that.’ He said that the court will give the nation an option and said that the government was formed in an unconstitutional manner.
He said that there was a sudden betrayal on the 24th, ‘Now an attempt is being made to create chaos in the country. We will stop it.’
The 19 office bearers elected from the UML 11th General Convention are dominated by men from the Khas Arya community. When the jumbo office bearer team was elected, only 1 woman and 1 Dalit were included.
The UML has not ensured inclusive representation in the office bearers. Due to this, the representation of women and Dalits in the party's decision-making roles is minimal, while the Muslim and Tharu communities have been left out. When KP Sharma Oli was elected as the chairman for the third term, five vice-chairmen were elected. But no women were included. The constitution and law have made provisions for inclusive proportional representation of all castes and communities in every state body.
Out of the 19 office bearers, 18 are men, or 94.74 percent, while only one woman, Padma Kumar Aryal, has been elected as the secretary. Raghubir Mahaseth from the Madhesi community has been elected as the deputy general secretary. Chhabilal Bishwakarma from the Dalit community has been re-elected as the secretary.
Prithvi Subba Gurung and Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal from the tribal community have been elected as vice-president and Sherdhan Rai as secretary.
Based on the ethnic cluster, the Khas Arya community has the highest representation at 73.68 percent, followed by indigenous tribes at 15.79 percent, women, Madhesi and Dalit at 5.26 percent. The Tharu and Muslim communities were not included in the office bearers. When two groups were nominated by forming a panel, no candidates were fielded from these communities.
Binda Pandey, who was defeated for the post of UML vice-president, has been elected as a central member.
Similarly, Rachana Khadka, who contested for the post of secretary, has also been elected as a central member.
They were elected as open central members. Gokul Baskota, who contested for the post of secretary, has also been elected as a central member. Usha Kiran Timsina, who contested for the post of central member, has been defeated.
Savita Yadav has won the Madhesi women's seat in the 11th general convention of the UML with the highest number of votes. Yadav, who was a candidate for the Madhesi women's seat, including the central member, has received 2,052 votes.
There were 7 candidates for the 6 central members in the Madhesi women's seat. Out of them, Yadav did not win despite getting the most votes.
Jwalakumari Sah, Ramrati Devi Ram, Pratiksha Tiwari, Sarita Kumari Giri (Yadav) and Julie Kumari Mahato have won the Madhesi women's seat.
In the 11th general convention of UML, Leela Kumari Bhandari, Kamala Kumari Oli and Bhagirathi Singh have won the central member Bhugol Sudurpaschim women's category. Among them, Bhandari won by getting 1,592 votes, Oli by getting 1,571 votes and Singh by getting 1,431 votes. Seven people competed for this position.
Padmakumari Aryal is the only woman among the 19 elected office bearers. She won by getting 1,530 votes.
Apart from Padmakumari, in the competition of 19 office bearers, Rachana Khadka was also in the fray for the post of secretary and Binda Pandey was also in the fray for the post of vice-chair. Rachana was defeated by getting 877 votes and Pandey by getting 921 votes.
Mahesh Basnet has received the most votes among the nine secretaries elected from the 11th general convention of the UML. Basnet received 1544 votes. Among the nine elected secretaries, Padmakumari Aryal received 1530 votes, Chhabilal Bishwakarma received 1506 votes, Sherdhan Rai received 1503 votes, Hikmat Kumar Karki received 1337 votes, Khagaraj Adhikari received 1231 votes, Yamalal Kandel received 1185 votes, Rajan Bhattarai received (1181 votes) and Bhanubhakta Dhakal received 1108 votes.
Prithvi Subba Gurung has garnered the most votes for the post of Vice President of the UML General Convention. He has garnered 1,737 votes. He was the Minister of Information and Communications in the government before the Gen-Ji rebellion.
Similarly, Bishnu Prasad Poudel, who was the Minister of Finance at the time, has garnered the second most votes, i.e. 1,675 votes. The third most votes have been received by Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, who joined the UML from the Maoists. He got 1,516 votes. Gokarna Raj Bista got 1,368 votes and Raghuji Pant got 1,258 votes.
KP Sharma Oli's well-wishers and supporters are overjoyed after he won the UML presidency for the third time.
Supporters and activists of Oli's side outside the polling station have been shouting slogans in support of the victory. 'Not today, tomorrow, 20 years for Oli', they are shouting slogans.
In the UML general convention, Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ from a Maoist background has won the post of Vice President and Lekhraj Bhatta has won the post of Deputy General Secretary. Badal and Bhatta have won amid doubts about what kind of political journey the leaders from the Maoists will take within the UML.
The Election Commission has informed that the results of all 19 office bearers will be made public within half an hour. That is why voters are eagerly waiting for the results at the counting center. KP Oli is leading by a wide margin in the presidency until the results of 50 percent of the votes are made public.
Nearly 50 percent of the votes have been counted for the UML leadership. With 1,139 votes counted, KP Sharma Oli is leading with 843 votes for the chairmanship, while Ishwor Pokharel has secured 296 votes. Shankar Pokharel is leading with 613 votes for the general secretaryship, while Surendra Prasad Pandey has secured 526 votes.
UML Chairman KP Oli is leading in the preliminary vote count for the 11th General Convention. Oli got 333 votes while another candidate, Ishwor Pokharel, got 110 votes. Shankar Pokharel got 249 votes for the post of General Secretary while another candidate, Surendra Pandey, got 194 votes.
