What you should know
Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal is retiring on Wednesday due to age limit. In the changing scenario after the Gen-G rebellion, who will come as the Chief Secretary, considered the highest post in the civil service?
Who will be responsible for transforming the entire administrative machinery? Since the role of the Chief Secretary will also be that of an advisor to the Prime Minister, many are interested in who will take on this responsibility.
The role of the new Chief Secretary seems to be broader due to the different situation after the Gen-G movement and the government formed with the responsibility of holding elections. Whether he will only do the work assigned by the Council of Ministers or show real 'performance' will depend on the personality and background of the Chief Secretary.

Burlakoti from Dhading, who joined the civil service in 2054, became Joint Secretary in 2068 Falgun and Secretary in 2078 Ashar. Burlakoti, who has a tough and hard-working nature, is among the employees who are transferred quickly. He has worked in the Ministry of Health and Population, the Office of the Vice President, the National Natural Resources and Finance Commission, and the Office of Public Procurement. He has spent most of his working life outside the valley. Another contender for the post of Secretary is Krishnahari Pushkar. Having gained experience working in many agencies in a short period of time, he was a Deputy Subba in 2055, an Officer in 2059, and an Undersecretary in 2066. During this journey, he has gained experience as a Chief District Officer, Departmental Head, Foreign Embassies, Authority, Ministry of Finance, and the Office of the Council of Ministers. He also has experience working in various domestic and foreign agencies. He is currently in the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Bajracharya, who is in the running for the post of Chief Secretary, entered the civil service from the Engineering Group. Having entered the civil service as a branch officer in Chaitra 2055, she has not worked outside the valley for a long time. Having spent a long working life in Kathmandu and Lalitpur, she has experience working in places such as the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Ministry of Science and Technology, Nepal Trust, Railway Department, Water Supply and Sanitation Division.
