The Election Commission is going to use a person's biometric data collected during the preparation of a national identity card for registering names in the voter list.
As the pressure to register names in the voter list has increased, it has been decided to use the 'biometrics' data collected for the national identity card to make it easier, said Acting Chief Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari. On Thursday, the commission launched a trial of using biometric details from the national identity card in the presence of Gen-G youth at the commission.
Acting Commissioner Bhandari said that now those who have made a national identity card can register their names by filling out an online form from home for voter registration.
Now, there is no need to go to the district election office to get biometrics done. This decision was made at a meeting between the commission officials and the registration department officials at Singha Durbar on Wednesday afternoon.
