Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal has launched the work of making voter ID cards using the biometric data collected for the national identity card.
In the presence of the Finance Minister, injured Prakash Bohora and Mukesh Awasthi, who are undergoing treatment at the Trauma Center, filled out the form for voter ID cards from their hospital beds. Now, based on the 'biometric' data, they will receive their voter ID cards via email.
The commission has started this exercise to make it easier after the pressure to register their names in the voter list increased. On Thursday, the commission had tested the use of biometric details from the national identity card in the presence of Gen-Z youth at the Election Commission.
This decision was taken at a meeting between the commission officials and the registration department officials at Singha Durbar on Wednesday afternoon at the initiative of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Immediately after the Prime Minister's decision, the employees of the National Identity Card and Registration Department and the commission's Information Technology Branch worked day and night.
