There have been difficulties in recovering the bodies of those who died in an avalanche at the base camp of Mount Yalung Ri in the Rolwaling mountain range.

The bodies of five foreigners who were caught in the avalanche have not been recovered. The bodies of two Nepali guides have been recovered, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Kumar Mahato. The two Nepali deceased are Mere Karki of Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality-5 in Solukhumbu and Padam Tamang of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9 in Dolakha. Two Italian climbers, one each from France, Canada and Germany, have been found to have been caught in the avalanche. “The identities of all those caught in the avalanche have been revealed, the bodies of two Nepalis have been recovered, and the search for the others is underway,” he said. The search team for the guides is still there, but the bodies of the foreigners have not been identified yet, he said.

The avalanche includes Paolo Coco and Marcus Kichler from Italy.  Similarly, the police have said that Jacob Schreiber from Germany, Christian Andre Manfredi from France, and Marco Di Marcello from Canada are among the missing. Police have said that their bodies are being searched in the area where the avalanche occurred.

Mingma Sherpa, the director of Heli Everest involved in the rescue, said that four people who were found seriously injured in the avalanche were rescued on Tuesday morning. According to him, two French climbers, Isvelli Solange and Didier Armand Breton, who were at the Yalung Ri Base Camp in serious condition, have been rescued.

Similarly, Nepali guides Lakpa Sherpa and Sun Bahadur Gurung were also rescued from the Yalung Ri Base Camp in serious condition, he said. The foreign climber is being treated at Era Hospital and the Nepali guide is being treated at Hams Hospital, according to police.

Similarly, three French and three Nepalese climbers who were slightly injured in the climb have been rescued from Na village. All of them are in good condition. Three are Carol Fuchs, Rathavan, Esweli Solange, and two French women, DDR Armand Betier. They were rescued from Na on Tuesday morning, Superintendent of Police Mahato said. Similarly, Chulthim Dolma Gurung, Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, and Raj Gurung were also rescued from Na. Eight foreign climbers and seven Nepali guides had gone there on Monday morning to climb the 5,630-meter-high Yalung Ri.

They were buried by an avalanche at around 8 am after reaching a little above the middle part of the mountain during the climb. Due to the bad weather, helicopters were banned in the area, and legal complications in obtaining permission prevented the rescue of those trapped in the avalanche on Monday.

After the weather cleared late on Monday, a rescue team led by Heli Everest Director Mingma Sherpa reached Na. The injured were rescued on Tuesday morning. According to the injured participants in the climb, they had come to climb the 6,334-meter-high Dolma Khang mountain. Before that, they were scheduled to climb Yalung Ri. The team that set out for the climb on Kartik 11 stayed in Na village due to bad weather and reached Yalung Base Camp.
