I turned off the fuel as soon as the helicopter lost its balance, so the fire did not start: Captain Vivek

”It's not like a helipad on the ground in the snow. It's difficult in the snow. How the snow is structured, whether it's weak or thick, has an impact.”

Due to bad weather, tourists are being rescued daily in the Khumbu region. This Wednesday morning, I had already taken two charter flights from Lukla to Pheriche and Kothe. My third flight was to Lobuche.

I had flown in to rescue two foreigners who were ill at altitude. There was thick snow and clouds. The helipads were covered in snow. There was no marshal to help with hand signals when the helicopter landed. The plane lost control while landing on the snow. It could not be lifted up again. It is not like a helipad on land in snow.

It is difficult in snow. How is the structure of the weak or thick snow formed? That affects it. As soon as the helicopter lost control, I turned off the fuel. I also pulled the brakes. That prevented the fire from starting and further damage.

I was the only one on the plane. Nothing happened to me. There are no injuries to my body. There is no scratch on my hand. I have now arrived in Lukla. I have arrived in Lukla by Kailash Air helicopter from Lukla. I will return to Kathmandu in a while.
