Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said that top leaders and their residences were targeted when the rebellion was at its peak, suggesting that this may be why top party leaders feel unsafe.
In an interview with Kantipur, he said that the situation is now moving towards normal and the government will guarantee security. He said that the parties were targeted during the uprising and the homes and residences of top leaders of many parties were damaged, saying that the feeling of insecurity is gradually moving towards normal. He said, "It is a reality that they are insecure. But we guarantee security. However, it is doubtful whether we will be attacked again. Now we will continue to strengthen the police administration. We will not remain silent even when any information comes like before. Now we will go for 'detection' and 'prevention'. We will identify any possibility of insecurity at the earliest." He said that dialogue with the parties is ongoing for the elections and claimed that the situation is now moving towards normal. He said that Estimating that once the situation normalizes, there may be a situation where the rebels and the parties can meet amicably and hold discussions with everyone, he said, 'The top leaders' homes are deserted. They have become the targets of the rebels. It is impossible to say when the rebels and the top leaders of the political parties will meet. But it seems that there is no permanent enemy in politics. It is not good to act like a permanent enemy. It only perpetuates negativity and strife in the society.' When asked why only second-tier leaders were present when Prime Minister Sushila Karki called political parties for consultations, he said that the initiative for such a meeting came from the Prime Minister's level and the answer to this should also come from there. He said, 'This discussion was held to normalize the situation and create an environment for elections. The Prime Minister did not 'bypass' any party, but rather took them along and had to discuss with all parties with the aim of successfully fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to him. The situation has not yet been completely normalized.
When asked why the government had taken the decision to recall security personnel from former prime ministers who had deployed more security personnel than the norm, he said that this was not a matter of much objection. He said that they had implemented the law and followed the established procedure, adding that more facilities than the procedure provided were illegal. He said, 'The facilities provided by the norms have not been removed from anyone. We cannot do anything outside the norms. Therefore, we have only implemented the established procedure. One of the main agendas of the Gen-G movement was good governance. Such a decision was taken because we have to maintain good governance after coming to power.'
He said that no one should take state resources against the norms, and said, 'Those who feel that they still have a security challenge can apply again and get additional security personnel. If such an application is received, the government will analyze the security challenge and provide security personnel.'
