Kukur Tihar falls on the second day of Yama Panchak, or Deepawali festival. This year, due to the change in the date, it has fallen on the third day, according to the Nepal Panchang Nirikh Bikas Samiti. Dog Festival is being celebrated today

Kukur Tihar is celebrated on the basis of the religious belief that on the day of Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi, dogs named Shyam and Sabal, who serve as gatekeepers at the door of Yamaraj, will leave the way for the Yamlok, said religious scholar Prof. Toyaraj Nepal.

Dogs are considered obedient and reliable pets.

Narak Chaturdashi

Today, early in the morning, at various pilgrimage sites, rivers or lakes, bathing, offering tarpan and washing the crops with the Yamadeep facing south, there is a religious belief that one does not have to visit hell after death. Religious scholars say that there is a ritual of bathing on Narak Chaturdashi. Lighting the lamp in this way and washing the crops is called washing the crops with the Narake.
