Prime Minister Sushila Karki will arrive at the airport to pay tribute to Bipin Joshi of Kanchanpur, who was killed in Israel. Joshi's body will arrive in Kathmandu via Fly Dubai at 2:35 pm on Monday.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Prime Minister Karki is scheduled to pay his respects at the airport. “Preparations are being made to take the body to Dhangadhi by a Nepali Army plane after paying homage at the airport, and then to Mahendranagar by air ambulance,” the official said.
Hamas carried out a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. At that time, about 1,200 people, including 10 Nepali students, were killed. 251 people, including Bipin, were under Hamas control.
Bipin and his friends were sitting in a bunker in Kibbutz Alumim when missiles suddenly started coming in around 6:30 am that day. Shortly after that, Hamas fighters who came by land began attacking.
Even as the Nepali students chanted, ‘We are Nepali, we are Nepali,’ they continued to attack. Later, Bipin picked up a grenade and threw it outside. At that time, Hamas kidnapped him.
He was expected to be released after the US-facilitated ceasefire. However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) informed Joshi's family, the Nepali ambassador to Israel and others after Hamas claimed that Joshi had died.
